About Baltistan

Baltistan is a division of Gilgit-Baltistan autonomous region of Pakistan. It borders Gilgit district in the west, the Xinxiang province China in the north, Ladakh in the east, Astore district in south west and the Kashmir valley in the south. A small portion of Baltistan, including the Kargil district and villages of Turtuk, Tiaqshi and Chulunkha, lies in the Ladakh region of Indian occupied Kashmir. Baltistan division consist of two districts Skardu and Ghangche district. Skardu district is the largest district of Gilgit Baltistan interms of population and area.

The region is inhabited principally by the Balti people of Tibetan descent. The vast majority of the population adheres to Islam which follows Sunni ,Shia , and Noorbakshi order of Islam.
The region has great strategical importance .Both Pakistan and India as the Kargil and Siachen were fought here.
